Like any other day I would hop into a cab, an FX or even the extravagantly painted jeepney to commute from one place to another. May it be on my way to work or somewhere else, the simplicity of paying a fraction of the price for added stress in maintaining your own ride.
I've always thought of having my own ride for convenience but never had the courage of "availing" one after almost working for 6 years. After a grueling 14 hours of work at Shaw, I found bliss when I hailed an FX.
The relief of not worrying about a lot of stuff when you're dead tired and sleepy. I'm grateful.
Twenty five Pesos plus twenty Pesos for my fare versus probably 250 pesos for gas and overnight parking.
Eavesdropping on other people's lives during their
chismisan time inside the public transportation. Today I had the chance of eavesdropping on a group of call center agents from Accenture and how amazed they were with workforce management and Auxes at work. If you're from the sunshine industry, you know what these are; and a mother-daughter tandem who were preparing for the kid's Christmas presentation. I don't want to call it eavesdropping per se but merely discovering other people's lives extra-ordinarilly. I remember when I was in college when I took the LRT 1 from Doroteo Jose to Vito Cruz on
Araw ng Nazareno in Quiapo. There was an egg vendor who also took the train to bring his goods to a public market across town. You know how jam packed a city train can be. "
Ang itlog ko mababasag!" (My eggs will break!). For sure, he meant both things.
Catching up on your sleep whilst travelling. It's either the traffic is heavy or just plainly it would take a while for you to get to your destination. A quick snooze shouldn't hurt.
Enjoying the scenery out your window. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway.
Testing your jologs-meter. May it be during the 5AM news via the AM radio or the endless phrases and comemrcials on the radio: forever; for life;
may energy
ka pa ba;
bisyo na 'to; love knows no boundaries etc etc...
For sure, once I have fully realized and appreciated the bliss and challenges of supporting public transportation, I'll be ready in facing another aspect of travelling alone.
